For the past 20 years I have felt a passion and drive to help others become the healthiest versions of themselves. The way this looks has changed astronomically during the past 20 years but as I reflect on this passion, I have learned the intention has always been the same – help people become whole.
Becoming whole is having wholeness. What does this mean?
Whole-ness noun.
- The state of forming a complete and harmonious whole; unity
- The state of being unbroken or undamaged
Being undamaged. Let that sink in.
How many women feel whole? Or a better question, how many don’t? How many feel –
Broken?
Damaged?
Worthless?
Numb?
Raise your hand if you are whole. I’m quite positive most women reading this did not raise their hand. This breaks my heart. How did we get here? And why is it that so much of it is centered around our appearance?
For some reason, women are most susceptible to the lies of what makes us worthy. I can’t quite put my finger on it. It’s not that men can’t be affected, but it is quite evident than this is largely a female problem. And it doesn’t discriminate. Self-hatred and brokenness is pervasive among women of all sizes and socioeconomic backgrounds. It breaks us down, prevents us from reaching our maximum potential and leaves us imprisoned in our bodies.
And for what? Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
But it doesn’t need to be this way. One by one, women are realizing what a trap we’ve fallen into and we refuse to be remain helpless and oppressed by the diet and wellness industries. But right now, it is literally one.by.one. And it’s because current culture has bought into this idea that your worth is determined by the size of your jeans, the contour of your cheek bones and the number on a scale. We often think we see past it or that we aren’t susceptible, but we don’t. We may see past the extreme of the ultra-thin models, but we don’t see past the lies we tell ourselves and project onto others every day.
Ready for it?
Your weight doesn’t matter.
It means absolutely nothing.
Becoming whole is realizing it gets better than this and that you can repair your mind, body and soul. You can return to a place of complete and harmonious whole.
