Moving Forward

Last Friday I finished my 2nd year of medical school. After the exam, I was expecting to feel more excited than I've been in a while. What I actually felt - absolutely nothing. It is a strange thing to explain. A few of my friends and I went out for a celebratory beer and while... Continue Reading →

Doors and Trim

When we moved into the house it was clear that the doors and trim were original and would need some updating. The doors were flat, hollow-core doors with an odd shiny glaze.  This combination made them unpaintable and unstainable...or at least for the amount of work we wanted to put in - trying to strip them,... New Refrigerator and Shelves!

We had our new refrigerator delivered yesterday, so I thought it would be a good time to share some updated pictures.  Jason installed the floating shelves next to the microwave about a month ago. I think they add a great touch!   Around the same time he also installed some shelves for our coffee... Continue Reading →

Healthy Twist on Bridal Shower Treats

Consider a yogurt bar for your next bridal or baby shower.  This post from Southern Weddings shows some beautiful ways to use mason jars to display your display. There is also a post here from a Florida wedding where a yogurt bar was set-up at the wedding.

One Step Closer

All of the side panels are up - yeah!!  We are slowly but surely getting closer. Here is a picture of the corner cabinets. J is going to build some floating shelves between the microwave and cabinet for cookbooks and decorations. I will update this soon with the other side panel pictures!

Window Cleaner: ½ c. ammonia 1 c. white vinegar 1 gal. hot water may add ½ c. rubbing alcohol for cold weather cleaning   To Freshen Drains: Pour ½ c.... Continue Reading →

Money Saving Mom’s 4 Weeks to Fill Your Freezer Challenge

Crystal at Money Saving Mom held a 4 week challenge last May to help people stock up their freezers and save money. This is an awesome idea that I wish I would have stumbled on over my winter break (as if I didn't have enough to do with the kitchen remodel). So many people tell... Continue Reading →

Waste Not: Freeze First, Eat Second

The Kitchn posted a super useful article on freezing food. The top complaints I get from people about eating healthy are: 1. Healthy food is too expensive 2. When they buy healthy food it goes bad before they can eat it all. My responses are: 1. Meal plan so you don't buy too much 2.... Continue Reading →

Office Update

The office is one area of the house we haven't spent much time on. We recently rearranged the room by placing the desk in the middle; I really love the open feel compared to the room when the desk was against the wall - it makes studying for 8 hours straight much more enjoyable.  We also... Living Room Decorations

The living room walls were pretty bare, aside from the pictures above the TV. The first decoration I found was a flower canvas painting at Target. The blue is a perfect complement to the neutral tone room. I also found some blue vases at goodwill for $1 each and decorative straw-colored exactly the same as the neutral... Continue Reading →
